Working with Christopher Peterson

Working with Chris Peterson is easy. When commissioning a work, the first thing is to establish a definition of the content and scope of the work. What is it? How big is it? How complex? How long will it take to complete? Is the client clear on their instructions? Will there be many rounds of changes? Those are the first considerations in determining a price for your work.

The second consideration is use or copyright. Will it be used in advertising? Will it be published nationwide? On a web site? In a magazine? Will it have an aftermarket, like a poster? By default, the copyright for any given work remains with the artist and the client gets a license for its use. When these things are established, a quote can be written.

Once the client “Pulls the trigger”, preliminary work will begin, research and photography if necessary and a round of rough sketches. One round of changes is typical in this stage, and one round in the final stage. Clients are encouraged to make a list of change requests that can be checked off as completed. If something is missed in the original instructions, it will be changed for free. If additional changes are requested, the clock starts ticking.

Electronic payments are generally preferred because they’re faster and more reliable than check by mail. PayPal, Venmo and Square are accepted here.
